How difficult is repair of stovetop porcelain?

I am going to look at a Chambers range with a black porcelain stovetop tomorrow. Is damage to the stovetop porcelain (not the burners) a difficult and/or expensive repair?

We had our 14-B stovetop reporcelian black @ Hugh's Place in Lousianna for $350.00. Macy's Stove Works in Houston quoted us $800.00!!! I highly recommend Hugh's. They had a quick turn around time. Our stove top was in pityful shape, it was oxidized and badly scratched and was more of a grey color than black. It's just beautiful now!!

Peter, since you are in So Cal, you won't need to pay freight if you take it to Gigi's in South Gate (near the Long Beach border). She does beautiful work and is very reasonable since she's the end provider and not the middle-man (I understand Macy's just sends the tops to Gigi's.)
